So The Roundhouse is having a special to celebrate their birthday. Fair enough, but we all know what it really is; a Winter Special. None the less, everybody likes a deal!
They are offering a 6 course menu for R180. It includes an Amuse Bouche, a choice of 2 Starters, a choice of 2 Mains, a Pre Dessert, Dessert and finally, Bon Bons. The choices may be a little limited, but the Roasted and Confit Lamb sounds delicious and so does the Layered Peanut Butter, Banana and Felchun Chocolate Cake.

Last night BH convinced me to visit the Dodge City Diner in the V&A Waterfront (you know, in that section nobody ever goes to by all the baby clothes). Apparently he used to go there a lot as a student, and was craving their saucy fries and milkshakes.
Being in the adventurous mood, I thought I’d give it a go despite the fact that the few times I’ve walked passed, I’ve never been particularly attracted to the place.
I have to say though, I had a lot of fun. Walking into the American soda-shop-style diner, with it’s counter stools, retro inspired posters, and checkered tiles, there is a certain nostalgia that makes itself felt. Sure, you’re sitting on display where everyone walking by can see you, but what did you expect?
The menu is busy and energetic, but once you make your way around it you’ll find all the good ol’ diner favourites; burgers, fries, milkshakes and ice creams. Throw in a little calamari, some fish and chips and a steak or two, and everybody’s happy.
Ask for your chips to be lathered in cheese and mushroom sauce, and order your milkshake thick. You’ll need to eat it with a spoon, and your mind will complain about all the “junk” food, but your tastebuds and stomach will be oh, so happy.
The bottom line? If you’re not looking for anywhere too healthy, your budget is looking meagre, and you’re in to have a bit of a smile, visit Dodge City Diner.
