Simonsig’s signature restaurant, Cuvée, celebrates the life and legacy of the estate’s late founder and beloved patriarch, Frans Malan, with an exclusive menu inspired by his favourite dishes from his wife’s secret recipes which she used to cook for family and friends.

From August until the end of October, diners can opt for this tantalising tribute of two and three course indulgences just as ‘Tannie Liza’ would have cooked them, but with a fresh Cuvée twist. All the dishes will either be made with or paired with Simonsig Frans Malan – the full-bodiedCape Blend (Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) crafted in honour of this visionary wine pioneer.

Frans Malan was not only a craftsman of superior wines, but introduced numerous ‘firsts’ and left an indelible legacy in the Cape Winelands. Some of his groundbreaking innovations include South Africa’s first Méthode Cap ClassiqueKaapse Vonkel almost 40 years ago as well as the first Rhine Riesling and wooded white wine in the country. He was also one of the three founders of the renowned Stellenbosch Wine Route in 1971.

Cuvée’s nostalgic menu reflects Frans Malan’s passionate spirit and will be tweaked on a weekly basis to share all his kitchen favourites in a more modern guise. Think fresh, pan fried white fish with roasted butternut; Springbok loin with apricot cream sauce and stewed prunes not forgetting his much loved malva pudding and pecan nut tart which promise to be firm favourites amongst the sweet temptations.

Visitors should also pop in at the Simonsig tasting room where a complimentary tasting of thelatest Simonsig Frans Malan vintage awaits you if you opt for the tasting flight of five estate wines at R25 per person. Should you like this stylish red blend and decide to buy a bottle, the wine tasting is on the house.

Cuvée’s ‘Frans Malan’ celebratory indulgence is available for lunch and dinner.

Cuvée is open from Tuesday to Thursday, 11h00 - 15h00, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11h00 - 15h00 and 19h00 - 22h00 and Sundays for lunch.
